Input: The Gasoline that Drives Language Acquisition
Wednesday November 20, 2024 1:00pm - 3:30pm EST
In the last forty years, second language acquisition (SLA) research has made fascinating discoveries about how the human mind does and does not acquire a second language. Dedicated, highly competent world language faculty now face the challenge of applying current SLA theories in their classrooms as they strive to meet the New Jersey Standard for World Languages. his is a hands-on workshop for world language teachers who are interested in experiencing a number of current, language teaching techniques and examining the language theories on which they are based. This is not a lecture but rather an interactive workshop which will offer the participants the opportunity to experience firsthand a basic language classroom in a less commonly taught language. Following this model, teachers will explore SLA theories and their concrete applications in a standards-based classroom. Special emphasis will be given to the role of input, the critical element in language acquisition. All professional educators continually strive to improve their teaching. This lively, participant-based workshop is intended to support this development!
