Bridging the Gap: SchoolAI for Essay Writing Support in the Academic and Special Ed Classroom
Wednesday November 20, 2024 1:00pm - 1:50pm EST
For many students in academic and special education classes, one of the greatest hurdles to essay writing is the struggle of actually putting pen to paper. Many times students sit and stare at a blank screen, just for them to be able to verbalize their arguments when you intervene. While many students understand what is required mechanically when writing an argumentative essay, it is a combination of confidence, language deficit, and the need for individual assistance that often stops them in their tracks. Enter SchoolAI as a powerful tool for problem solving and support that promotes self-advocacy with the ability to tailor the student experience to your desires! Explore how I have used this tool in both settings and take away a lesson exemplar for introducing an AI co-pilot to the essay writing process!

"From Clicks to Classroom Creations: How to Laser-Cut Your Way to a Smarter Class!"
Wednesday November 20, 2024 2:00pm - 2:50pm EST
In this hands-on session, educators will dive into the exciting world of Computer-Aided Design and Drafting (CADD) using user-friendly tools like Tinkercad and laser cutters. Whether you’re a science teacher looking to model chemical reactions or an art teacher wanting to explore layered engravings, this workshop has something for you! You’ll learn how to create custom manipulatives, facilitate student-led projects, and even simulate scientific phenomena using CADD software. By the end, you’ll be equipped to engage your students in creative problem-solving and design thinking, with projects ranging from molecule models to intricate, laser-cut artwork. No prior experience required—just bring your creativity and your sense of adventure!

Prepare to spark new levels of curiosity and innovation in your classroom, one laser-cut piece at a time.

School Counselors: College Admission Trends You Need to Know
Wednesday November 20, 2024 3:00pm - 3:30pm EST
After attending the NACAC Conference in Las Angeles, I learned that the last few years have resulted in major changes that affect how school counselors can best advise their students. Backed by research from the NACAC, I would like to share college application data, updated factors in admissions decisions, and the perception of what students believe is important in admissions vs. what is ACTUALLY important in admissions.
